Why Community Clothing Assistance needs your help?

Community Clothing Assistance (CCA) is a local non-profit organization founded in 2006 by three visionaries who sought to relieve poverty from the base through the operation of a clothing bank. They determined a number of factors contributing to poverty or need for assistance:

    • Addiction
    • Anger management issues
    • Disasters (including fire, flood, or other accidents)
    • Limited education and employment skills
    • Mental illness
    • Unexpected job loss
In order to combat these issues, CCA runs a number of programs to provide the community with opportunities, in addition to our free clothing programs. By offering a low-cost assortment of clothing for purchase, we allow vulnerable members of our communuity to pay their own way. This, in addition to our job experience program, promotes our values of community, compassion, dignity and hope, and increases confidence among recipients.
Today, the organization continues to operate with its roots firmly embedded in volunteerism and collective community responsibility. Our charity provides a number of poverty-relieveing community programs in partnership with over 150 local organizations.
CCA was born from the desire to grow the community. As a team, we are addressing community challenges and uncertainities while encouraging growth and achievement. With the help of our donors and community partners, we embed hope and dignity in all of our operations, and believe that the best is yet to come.

    Why Legacy Giving?

Legacy giving allows you to designate a portion of your estate to the charity of your choice, ensuring that you can continue to make difference for years to come.
There are many reasons that a person may choose legacy giving as the ultimate final gift, encluding:

    • To achieve philantrophic objectives
    • To designate a gift to a specific branch of a charity
    • To honour a loved one
    • To honour a personal history with a charity
    • To support an organization's mission and values
    • [Number] of advertisements in [media type] for [amount of time] (estimated value=[amount])
    • [List our any other perks or benefits that your non-profit can offer]

    How to give?

It's upto you to decide how to direct your estate, should you choose legacy giving. However, here are few suggestions to get you started.

    • Bequests: This is by far the most popular gift, making up 75-80% of all planned giving. It is also the easiest to make, and costs you nothing during your lifetime. Simply choose a dollar amount or percentage of your estate, and note it in your will. Already have a will written and don't want to deal with the costs of rewriting it? No worries - talk to your lawyer about a codicil, an amendment that costs nothing to add.
    • Appreciated Securities/Stocks: If you've owned publicly traded stocks for over a year, you can transfer them to a non-profit organization such as ours. You can also designate the specific program or purpose you'd like to see the proceeds applied to. In return, you'll get an income tax charitable deduction based on the fair market value, meaning it will cost you less out of pocket to make a charitable gift.
    • Life Insurance You can designate a charity as a Life Insurance policy beneficiary, and when the time comes, the proceeds will go towards supporting the organization. This is beneficial for your heirs - when life insurance proceeds are distributed to a non-profit, they are not subject to heavy taxation.
    • Retirement Plans: You can also name a charity as the beneficiary of a portion or all your RRSP/RRIF funds. Your heirs will avoid income and estate tax in this scenario as well - which can be designated a more favourably taxed portion of your will.

    • We recommend speaking with a financial advisor or lawyer to help you decide which option is best for you.
